2024 Color Trends in Interior Design

Mar 5, 2024

Every year, the biggest question in interior design is, "Which colors are the best?" Trends change every year, and new color palettes are introduced. Many design and furniture companies will explore and research new trending colors to bring them to the forefront.

To understand more about 2024 color trends, we must investigate interior design and check which colors were trending in 2023 and why. There’s always a reason why a certain hue was chosen in a specific year to be a trending color.

Usually, following these types of chosen colors brings a balanced vibe to your home. However, keep in mind that it’s only sometimes necessary to follow these palettes because, in the end, it’s your house and your choice. You should pick whichever color you like the most.

Tone-to-Tone

Tone-to-Tone

One of the most popular trending styles of 2024 is the tone-to-tone color palette. This trend involves picking one primary hue color and then decorating everything with different shades of that color.

This color palette allows designers to create balance and harmony without the need for many colors – there’s only one. This creates a challenge for designers since they must create balance with different tones of only one specific color. This type of design is complex to develop, which is why I suggest creating mood boards or preview renderings to visualize how everything will look. Creating equilibrium requires hard work, but you will end up with a beautiful environment in the end.

Greens

Another trend of 2024 is green. Since people’s interest in nature has risen these past years, designers are adding green to every color palette.

As we know, green is associated with life, peace, and sustainability. There are many types of green, but "Card Room Green" and "Evergreen Fog" are some of the most popular shades of green. This is because they bring calmness to their environments.

It’s also easy to use another type of color with these shades of green. They’re not as vibrant as others, which means they create neutral color visuals, which, with the help of other colors, give off warmth and vitality in your home.

Moreover, because these types of colors don’t draw the eye as much as others, they give the illusion of expanding space. Their neutral saturation creates an ideal environment for both work and relaxation.

In general, the color green is very helpful for our mental well-being since it creates a calm and tranquil environment.

Earth Colors

Earth Colors

The next trend I want to discuss is Earth colors, which create a warm and cozy environment. Expect to see more earthy, natural colors in interior design in 2024. These colors create a calming and grounding effect in a space. Think warm browns, soft greens, and muted blues.

Nature is becoming one of the most popular topics of the year, which is why this type of palette will be very trendy in 2024. Using this in interior design will help your home merge itself with the landscape.

This color palette may have been considered more moody, dull, and less vibrant in the past years. However, nowadays, designers are becoming fearless in expressing themselves and showing the full potential of certain colors. In our case, this creates a welcoming and cozy environment, which is the main goal.

Accent Colors

Accent Colors

While neutral colors will be popular this year, there will also be a desire for bold accent colors that add a pop of personality to a space. Consider accenting a room with bright colors such as mustard yellow, cherry red, or royal blue. Furthermore, rich, deep jewel tones like emerald green, sapphire blue, and amethyst purple can add a sense of luxury and sophistication to a space. Consider using these colors in textiles or as an accent wall.

Black

Black

Black has always been one of the most used colors in modern styles. In many cases, designers prioritize more dominant colors (such as black) and adjust the saturation to create balance. We often see this design in small bedrooms and bathrooms since it creates great contrast and is relatively easy on the eye. Using wood-like textures and a small amount of green with black creates a modern look, creating vibrant visuals.

Trending Colors and Pets

Light colors will help create an environmentally friendly and pet-friendly environment. Using light colors such as azure, beige, or any other colors that are similarly light and bright as white will make a small space bigger.

Using natural light will help create a welcoming environment and can also help small rooms look bigger. I suggest not overcrowding small places and using a modern minimalist design. This will make your place more pet-friendly since there will be more space for our furry friends to roam around.

The Trend Zone

We must talk about "Trend Zone". This trend relates to most mixed visuals that can be found on social media. Many people look for and check trends that others post in order to recreate them.

Recreating a trend you see is not a bad idea, and it can even help your mental health. However, liking and recreating more than one trend at a time might create chaos and an unbalanced environment in your home. While recreating something, it is always important to remember that you must match the house's colors; this will help you create art and personality in your home.

While trends offer valuable inspiration for interior design, one must remember that personal preferences and individual styles should merge and create equality.

Conclusion

To sum up, it’s important to remember that the house is yours, and you can do whatever you want with it. It’s up to you to decide whether you want to create balance or overcrowd, mix all the colors, or just make everything white. The design you like best will be the one that ultimately brings you the most joy.

Only use trending colors when they appeal to you because you never know what could suit you. Your imagination is your limit, and you should not limit yourself to someone else's color palette. Feel free to experiment and make changes until you find the perfect design that genuinely feels like home to you. You must remember that your home reflects you and your unique personality. There is no right or wrong way to decorate your home. It's all about what makes you feel comfortable and happy.
